happened between 1850 and 1861, quick tour. bleeding kansas, kansas-nebraska bill, steven a. doug los, the political compromise of the bill, and it's brilliant. if you want to know why steven a. douglas was known for his political brilliance, read about him in 1850. that's when he became the great steven a. douglas. now, he was forever in slow and rapid after wards because he in effect by promoting the kansas-nebraska act years later, and essentially ofuated what had been achieved in the compromise of 1850. that, too, helped radicalize northerners. the blood in kansas that came out of the kansas-nebraska act helped radicalize northerners. john brown, harper's raid and other abolitionist activity radicalized northerners, and so it would certainly be wrong to suggest the compromise all by itself somehow was all that mattered in that decade. these other things were partly offshoots of it, but, again, war would have come in 1850 without it. hi. >> i was wondering if it's tough to deal with hypotheticals, but if you could comment on compromise would have been different or would have happen

in a murder case that's gone unsolved nearly 30 years. steven carlson is accused of killing 14-year-old tina fales. carlson was 16 at the time of the killing but investigators did not link him to the case until last year. carlson has pleaded not guilty to the charge. the now 44-year-old is expected in court in oakland today for a preliminary hearing. >>> 6:35. the corroded pipe which is believed to be the cause of that massive fire at the chevron refinery in august is now being linked to another fire just last year. the san francisco chronicle is reporting that the investigation into the much smaller fire in october of 2011 documented allegations of corrosion from two workers. that fire happened during a scheduled maintenance shutdown and was quickly put out. at the time chevron officials said the corrosion that led to the fire was unexpected and that an investigation found nothing unusual. >>> a san jose city councilwoman is accusing police are delaying their response times on purpose. rose herrera sent a mailer to voters claiming police are using tactics against the city in retaliation ove
